Blogtober Day 4: Wild Thing

October 4: A story about a time you were very afraid.

I cannot think of a particular instant that I was afraid. I think fear happens every day whether that is what I label it or not. Fear is constant. We all fear failing, unhappiness, death, life, heights, spiders ... you get the point. It is our ability to overcome constant fears that make us strong.

But, hey, we've all got a story, right? Mine's a bit more on the hilarious side...

My first roller coaster ride.

Side note: I get an uncomfortable feeling about heights, the dark and new things like, I don't know, a 207' foot drop?

I was in 3rd grade, I think? We took a family trip to Valley Fair. My mother had a brilliant (sarcasm) idea to go on the Wild Thing roller coaster. She's got a thing for roller coasters. This baby has a 207' drop -- into twists and turns and tunnels and heights and all my favorite things.

But, it really wasn't the drop that was the worst: It's the climb. (Miley reference, anyone??) The rattling of the small cart against the rails to get to the top was haunting. As we took the drop, I held my breath and closed my eyes. Worst thing ever. I'm getting clammy just writing it!

The only time on the entire ride that I opened my eyes was, conveniently at the point in which a picture is taken. This picture has since been destroyed.

Yep, I found a video of The Wild Thing from the Front Seat. Enjoy.

A two-minute ride -- scarred for life.

I do want to go back to Valley Fair and face the fear. That's the best part of fear, the moment when you overcome it.

Yours xx
